CRST’s Veterans Service Office Taking Names of Vets to Attend First Ever Conference in Minnesota

EAGLE BUTTE, S.D. – (DRG News March 29, 2012, By: Jeri Thomas, news@dakotaradiogroup.com) The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe’s Veteran Service Office wants vets to know that if they are interested in attending an upcoming Veterans Meeting in Shakopee, Minnesota; they should contact the CRST Veterans Service Office. The meeting in Shakopee will be April 17-18 and is for tribal leaders, veterans and vet reps. It is being organized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs new Office of Tribal Government Relations, which was started last year to serve as an advocate for Tribal Veterans. At the conference, there will be presentations on a number of topics; including the GI Bill, Dependents Education Assistance and more. The CRST Veteran Service Office is taking the names of those who want to attend and the information will be presented to the tribal council April 3; which will be offering travel funds for the trip. Tribal Veteran Service Officer Robert Dunsmore says that there are over 1,200 veterans living in the boundaries of the reservation. He thinks that vets will be interested in learning more about PTSD and home loans for veterans, among other topics of interest.

Dunsmore says there are other South Dakota tribes that are arranging for tribal leaders and veterans to attend next month’s conference.
