Veteran’s Services Officer’s responsibility is to protect claimant’s interest and this means doing nothing that could have an adverse effect on their claims. The Officer is not authorized to represent in a claim for VA. Benefits. Representation is the function and responsibility of the Division of Veteran’s Affairs, Sioux Falls, SD.
In filing of any evidence, in a claim or appeal, similarly, a claimant should be strongly advised that it is to their advantage to cooperate with and work through the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Only the D.S.O.s and their staff of accredited representatives can have direct access to a claimant’s V.A. claims folder or file and take official action on the claimant’s behalf.
The Tribal Veteran’s Services Officer has certain limitations that may affect his job to assist the veterans. He may take applications for Disability, Education benefits, Vocational Rehabilitation, Home Loans, Burial benefits, Dependents & Survivors benefits, Health Care benefits and sometimes Life Insurance benefits.
Eligibility of Veterans: A veteran, a veteran’s dependent, or a surviving spouse or child of a deceased veteran.
The Veteran’s Services Officer is NOT responsible for any actions taken by the claimant directly with the Veteran’s Administration.
